And that makes sense, since we're heading into the fall season. As is frequently the case, many of these products are either discounted for multiple purchases. One other note: there are 3 menswear products on the list this time.

Warren Little League Girls Minors Capture Pennsylvania State Championship

I know it's been a long time since I've posted, but it was worth the wait! The Warren Girls Minors Little Leaguers won the state championship last night, and I thought this might be a great way to congratulate them! Here's a photo, and the article from the Warren Times Observer:

OLD FORGE - The wait was well worth it.

The Warren Girls Minors all-star team rebounded from a Sunday loss and waited out a rain delay on Monday before claiming the Little League state championship with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Lehigh.

The feat was likely the first in history for a Warren County Little League team, not just for a 9-10-year old Little League girls softball team.

In this tournament, Warren left little doubt as to who had the best team in the state.

Where the Hell is... Matt?

My son showed me this video a few nights ago on YouTube. I thought it was kinda cool, and even the song starts to grow on you after awhile. I was able to find the video posted on Matt's website (www.wherethehellismatt.com), giving me the opportunity to share the video with my coworkers. YouTube, along with other sinister sights such as Facebook and MySpace are blocked by the Blair servers.

Have a look, and tell me what you think.

Former 'spam King' Must Pay MySpace $6 Million

Scott Richter, of Media Breakaway, has been ordered to pay $6 million to MySpace for spamming MySpace members in August 2006 from phished MySpace accounts.

You might remember Scott from his old company, Optinrealbig.com, or maybe by his $7 million settlement with Microsoft on similar charges in 2005.

Gone Fishin'

Though I'm quite certain that most of you didn't even know I was gone, I figured I'd share. From June 6th through June 13th, I travelled with 5 friends on a fishing excursion to Canada.

On Friday, 6/6, we left Warren, Pa and headed 625 miles north to Cochrane, Ontario. We were scheduled to fly out on Saturday morning, but high winds grounded the planes at Cochrane Air. Finally, on Sunday, we were able to board two Beavers and a Cesna, and fly another 100 miles north to Lake Nettogami. We stayed in a log cabin with no water or electric and a single wood stove.

The fishing was darned good! As a group, we caught 1265 fish, including just under 1000 walleye and nearly 300 northern pike. Yours truly added 196 fish to the total. (Yes, I know... I was below the average for a 6 man team, but I was fishing with some pretty experienced fishermen!)

The planes picking us up on Saturday morning, 6/14, were on time, and we were back home in Warren by 11pm.

Since this is the Blair Affiliates Blog, I should make note of something. I brought the Dorfman Pacific Safari Hat (available at Blair.com) along with me for the the trip. Though a strong gust of wind blew it off my head and into the water while unloading the plane 30 seconds after arrival, it dried out within a few hours and served me nicely for the remainder of the trip.

Though it was a bit chilly just south of James Bay, the scenery was beautiful! I figured I'd include one other photo as an example. Because we were so far north, the sun didn't set until late in the evening. This photo was taken while we were still fishing at 9:55pm.

ESPN has come out with LOTS of new widgets!

OK. Of course the New York Mets don't have anything to do with Blair.com or affiliate marketing. But, it's a Friday, and I am amazed at all the different widgets ESPN is providing. You can see all the different widgets for just about every sport at the ESPN Widget Center.

What's the deal with Burberry Coats?

I'm at a loss on this one! Over the past several months, I've got dozens -- maybe even hundreds -- of applications on CJ, all dealing with Burberry Coats. They're all Blogspot blogs with the same layout and all have pretty much the same title. I've received affiliate applications from Mary's Burberry Coat Review, Larry's Burberry Coat Review, West Coast Burberry Coat Review, and countless others.

All the "Reviews" have the same text, and a simple eBay link to the current listings for burberry coats.

Does anyone know what this is all about? Are other affiliate managers seeing this type of applications, too?

"A message to our customers and affiliates" from DoubleClick Performics

I got this email at around 7pm, April 2nd from DoubleClick Performics.

As you are aware, Google closed its acquisition of DoubleClick on March 11, 2008. Since that time, we have been actively involved in integration planning for each of our products and business units. We have recently completed this process for the DoubleClick Performics business.

As a result of our planning, we are formally splitting DoubleClick Performics into two separately-run business units - Affiliate Marketing and Search Marketing. We plan to integrate the Affiliate Marketing business into existing Google operations, providing enhanced value and reach for our Affiliate advertisers and additional tools and monetization opportunities for our publishers. We plan to sell the Search Marketing business unit to a third party. In Europe, these plans and their implications for our employees are subject to consultation with staff and employee representatives, where applicable.

During this transition, we will ensure that customers receive the same high level of service that they have always experienced. For those of you who have DoubleClick Performics relationships that include both Search and Affiliate Marketing services, we will assign separate account teams for each service. We will contact you shortly with more information regarding your assigned account team.

The Search Marketing business will continue to run as a separate entity until the division is sold. All client data will, of course, be kept confidential. Please contact your
Search account manager for additional information.

We plan to continue to aggressively invest in and grow our Search Marketing business during this period of transition, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with each of our Search clients.

Thank you for your continued support of DoubleClick Performics.

A voicemail from one of my favorite Performics employees last night explained that it's business as usual at Performics. At least for the time being. (That last statement is mine, not Jade's!)

New York – March 18, 2008 – LinkShare, a leading pay-per-action marketing network, announced the resignation of Stephen R. Denton as President of the company and two promotions in its executive management team.

Kelli Beougher, Vice President of Lead Generation Services, was promoted to Senior Vice President and will add responsibilities for LinkShare’s push into new businesses, as well as day to day management of its extensive publisher network. Beougher joined LinkShare in 2001, and has held senior roles in client and network development services. Prior to joining LinkShare, she held positions at both Priceline Webhouse and LexiQuest. She began her career at GE Capital Management, and is a Six Sigma Black Belt and holds a B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin.

Arun Bordoloi, Senior Vice President of Services, who currently runs LinkShare’s Affiliate Marketing business, was given the additional responsibility of leading LinkShare’s growing Search Engine Marketing (SEM) business. Prior to LinkShare, Bordoloi was Senior Vice President for Draftfcb. Before that, he spent eight years at Razorfish (AvenueA/Razorfish). Mr. Bordoloi started his career in management consulting for Ernst & Young and Deloitte Consulting. He holds a B.S.E.E. and an M.S.E.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

While a search for Denton’s replacement gets underway, his duties will be assumed by John J-H Kim, who will become Interim President in addition to his role as CEO of LinkShare’s parent company, Rakuten USA.

"During his tenure at LinkShare, Steve made important contributions to the organization - helping to build a strong client services team, introduce innovations in technology and service offerings, and expand LinkShare’s global presence,” said John J-H Kim. "We thank him for his many contributions to LinkShare and wish him well in his new endeavors.”

LinkShare was founded in 1996 and acquired in 2005 by leading Japanese e-commerce company Rakuten. In recent years the company has expanded beyond affiliate marketing to provide search and lead generation services as well as support for video and mobile pay per action tracking to its customers.

I'd like to wish Steve Denton the best in whatever his future plans are. I met Steve, initially, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, and have considered him a friend ever since. The one thing you can say about Steve Denton is that he's a straight shooter. You always know where he stands on an issue. I like that in a person. I'm hopeful that Steve will still be a part of the affililate marketing industry in his next role. I said it before when the departures of Todd Crawford from CJ, and John Joseph from Performics were announced, and I'll say it again in regards to Steve. The industry won't be the same without him!

Lopez Out as Blair Chief

This article appeared in the February 23, 2008 edition of the Warren Times Observer.

Orchard Brands has named Shelley Nandkeolyar to succeed Al Lopez as President and Chief Executive Officer of Blair.

Nandkeolyar has been serving as Chief Executive Officer of Norm Thompson Outfitters, another Orchard Brands company located in Portland, OR.

The announcement of the change in command at Blair was made by Orchard Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Neale Attenborough, who praised Lopez's accomplishments during his tenure at Blair's helm.

"Al has been a highly valued member of the Orchard Brands leadership team and the Blair family," said Attenborough. "He will be greatly missed. Under his leadership, Blair significantly exceeded its 2007 profit target. Al leaves Blair with a solid platform for growth."

Attenborough indicated that he and Lopez had held extensive discussions on Lopez's future at Blair.

"Al and I engaged in many positive conversations about his future with the organization. At the end of this process, a mutual decision was made to part ways."

While Attenborough indicated that Orchard Brands will miss Lopez's service and passion for advancing Blair's performance, he said that Nandkeolyar possessed the professional and personal skills to lead Blair in the years preceding its centennial.

"Shelley's extensive professional experience in the direct marketing industry will serve Blair and Orchard Brands will in the years ahead," said Attenborough. "Blair's associates will come to appreciate his commitment to both the business and their personal success."

Lopez said his time at Blair had been both professionally and personally rewarding.

"It has been an honor to lead Blair during one of the most eventful periods in the nearly 100-year history of the company," said Lopez. "I am extremely grateful for the support of Blair's associates and the community during the difficult task of reversing the company's decline. I will miss Blair, it's associates, and the many individuals in the region whom I now count as friends."

Prior to joining Norm Thompson Outfitters, Nandkeolyar was president of Home Depot Direct. He initially joined Home Depot as vice president of interactive marketing and e-business, charged with redesigning HomeDepot.com.

Before joining Home Depot, Nandkeolyar was executive vice president and president of Internet/direct commerce at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and responsible for the company's direct commerce business segment, which included Marthastewart.com and the Martha by Mail catalog.

Nandkeolyar, an 20-year veteran in marketing and merchandising, launched Williams-Sonoma's online business including WilliamsSonoma.com, PotteryBarn.com and PotteryBarnKids.com. Before joining Williams-Sonoma, he held marketing positions in Asia and Europe as well as North America, including a development stint on the direct-to-consumer business involving catalog and online channels at Levi Strauss and Co.

Happy Valentine's Day (and other stuff) from Blair.com

I'll be letting everyone in on a new Blair.com promo tomorrow, that will run through March 15th. But... since it's Valentine's Day, I thought maybe we'd stray away from affiliate marketing for a bit and stick with the theme of the day.

I'm going to ask all Blair.com partners to help out a fellow Blair employee. That's Molly McBride and her fiance, Jim, in the picture. Molly is a designer here at Blair. She and Jim were selected as contestants in the "Wedding Giveaway" contest sponsored by McFadden Toyota in Lakewood, NY. Here's a brief description of the "Luv Toyota Dream Wedding Giveaway":

-All Contestants have been chosen and posted on the Luv Toyota website at: http://www.luvtoyotapromo.com/Home.aspx

-Voting begins on February 14, 2007 to March 14, 2007. You must first register to vote (only once) at: http://www.luvtoyotapromo.com/Register.aspx. Then you may vote 1 time per day per IP address at: http://www.luvtoyotapromo.com/Home.aspx . Fill out the short form and we will get 5 extra bonus votes with your vote!

-The couple with the most votes wins a total prize package valued in excess of $50,000!

So... you'll get notice of a new Blair.com promotion tomorrow that will run through March 15th. It will be available at both Performics and CJ. While that promo is going on, I'm hoping everyone will vote for Molly and Jim. Every day!

Tips on Creating and Saving Reports on CJ

At times, I've found the CJ interface to be a bit difficult, but that's probably due to the fact that I didn't take the time initially to figure everything out. Recently, Shawn Collins at AffiliateTip blogged about difficulty he had with the CJ interface, and how quickly he heard from CJ representatives. If you remember correctly, I had the same experience when blogged about a value-added services launch at CJ and got a response from Kristina Vallen within a few hours.

In any case, Shawn describes how he was shown some tips in using the CJ interface, and I thought they might come in handy for Blair.com affiliates through Commission Junction. Click here to view Shawn's blog, and let me know what you think!

A little fun from Blair.com!

I know that affiliates tend to spend long hours in front of their monitors, with little food, sleep or companionship. I can't send you a pizza, tuck you in, or visit every Blair.com affiliate on the planet, but I do have a little stress reliever for you. When you need to take a bit of a break, visit one of the two sites below for some photo fun.

I found these two sites thanks to one of my many favorite Blair.com affiliates -- "Kim" from ShoppingBookmarks.com. Well... she's not only from ShoppingBookmarks.com, but I don't have the time or typing skills to list all her sites and blogs! I hop you enjoy these two nifty sites!

1. McLovin ID Maker

If you've seen the movie Super Bad, you know what this is all about. If you haven't, well... I guess this link probably won't do much for you. I'm in no way telling people to rent this movie! I thought it was a COMPLETE waste of time, though I've heard people (well, mostly teenage males) claim it was hilarious.

2. MagMyPic.com

Load a pic of yourself, press a button, and choose which magazine cover you want to grace. It really is THAT easy! You can choose from magazines such as Rolling Stone, Cosmo, TIME, National Geographic and 12 others.

Go ahead and take a bit of time to fool around with these two sites, and then get back to doing what you do best -- promoting Blair.com!

Lots and lots of pants! And... there are several menswear items on the list, too. You should be able to find these items in the Blair.com product databases at both Performics and CJ.

Hap-Hap-Happy New Year!

I know. I know. It's January 17th. Where have I been?

Unfortunately, I don't have a good excuse for not posting to the Blair Affiliates Blog. I wasn't locked up in a Mexican prison or skiing in Bern, Switzerland. I was just relaxing over the holidays, and keeping up with turning down all those bikini-clad babes who want to be my friend on MySpace. Hey! There's another one popping up right now. The email says "Pinkcandybabe would like to be added" as one of my friends. Hmmmm... Pinkcandybabe, huh? I guess she COULD be into affiliate marketing. I'd better check. BRB.

Nope. Pinkcandybabe's real name is Paris, and she's sweet and lonely. Her interests include candles, bubble baths, body lotions and things that smell good. No mention of affiliate marketing. Pinkcandybabe's been denied, and marked as spam.

My boys and I went and saw I Am Legend over the holidays. All I can say is, "I am... not impressed!" I like Will Smith, but there just wasn't too much to the movie. And there were WAY too many special effects. The zombies had no substance whatsoever. They were more like cartoon characters. I'll take The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston any day over I Am Legend. It's been a loooong time since I've seen it, but I remember the zombies in The Omega Man had personalities. Heck! The even had a leader!

Unfortunately, I won't be attending the Affiliate Summit West in February this year. We'll have to wait and see on AS East.

OK. That's enough of my "I Am Back!" post. Tomorrow we'll jump back into affiliate marketing and I'll post all the current top Blair products for all you loyal Blair.com Affiliates!
