On the Road Again...

I've been neglectful in posting, so I figured I'd cover two birds with one stone! This weekend, I'm heading west to CJU in beautiful Santa Barbara. As I posted earlier, this conference is usually a sell-out, and 2006 is no exception. There IS a waiting list, but at this late of a date, I'd be willing to bet that if you're not in, you're not going to be able to make the trip.

I'll be sure to post what happened, what I did, who I saw and what I learned once I return. Don't be expecting to hear from me early on Wednesday, 9/20, because I'm taking the red eye home Tuesday evening.

Now... let's reflect on another trip I made in August. On August 21 and 22, I attended the Performics Client Summit. This was my second one (I attended in 2005, too), and I was amazed at the difference! In 2005, I compared the Performics Client Summit and Commission Junction University this way -- the Performics Summit was like a stuffy country club affair, and CJU was like a college frat party. However, in 2006, the Performics Client Summit had REALLY changed! Stuart Frankel started things off with a great welcome that was sprinkled with just the right amount of humor. Yes. I used "Stuart Frankel" and "humor" in the same sentence! He really did a fantastic job! And... there was probably double the amount of attendees, including over 100 affiliates/publishers.

On came the speakers. Anne Holland from Marketing Sherpa led things off. Anne is always informative and entertaining, but I've seen her presentation before. All in all, I'd rate the presenter an "8", and the presentation a "7". Next came David Lewis of 77Blue and ThisNext. This was the first time I've sat in on one of David's presentations. I've seen him on panels before, but never solo. His presentation, "A Day in the Life of an Affiliate Publisher" was a hoot, and it was also informative. Presenter: 9, Presentation: 8. Finally, Lauren Freedman of the e-tailing group presented "Building a Publisher Site for Payout and Conversion." Wow! Lauren packed about 3 hours worth of information and charts into just over 45 minutes. I tried to take notes, but finally spent most of my time pouring over the charts on the large screens. Presenter: 6 (only because it was SO much info), Presentation: 9.

Oh... and did I mention we went and saw the Cubbies on a rooftop across from Wrigley Field on Monday evening?

Stay tuned, and I just might fill you in on the Day 2 Festivities.
