Merry Day-After-Christmas

I'm back in the office after a long weekend filled with family, good food, good drink, good gifts and good friends (one in particular). It's time to get ready for a quick start for 2007. I know, I know... we still have a few days left in 2006. But, in affiliate marketing, this week is usually used to catch our breathe after the hectic holiday shopping season.

I'll be working on the Q1 '07 Blair affiliate promotions calendar and will be sharing the January promotion with Blair.com Affiliates later this week, before I head out for another long weekend on Thursday afternoon. The January promotion will actually begin on January 2nd, because I won't be in the office on New Year's Day. My boys and I have other plans for the first day of 2007!

I'll be attending the Affiliate Summit taking January 21-23 in Las Vegas. The Summit is once again being held at Bally's on the strip. My flight doesn't get in until early evening on Sunday the 21st, but I'm hoping to see everyone later that evening at the Affiliate Jam Session being hosted by Shareasale!

To sum it up -- I'm looking forward to a big first month in 2007!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to all Blair.com partners (and anyone else who happens upon this blog)! The Blair.com Affiliate Program has had another banner year (no pun intended) and I'd like to thank you for your hard work and commitment.

Celebrate, relax and enjoy time with family and/or friends. I'll have some great promotions available when we get back in 2007, so we can get an early start on another incredible year.

By the way... we included a few recipes in our Blair.com Newsletter. If you're interested in recipes for Irresistible Turtle Fudge and Santa's Favorite Peanut Butter Chip Cookies, click here.

Once again, enjoy the holidays!

Dang! I've been tagged by Kim!

OK. OK. I'm not usually one to post these goofy things, but Kim is a friend of mine and it's the holiday season, so, just this once...

The story goes like this --

I was blog tagged by Kim, who was tagged by Shmuly who was tagged by Kris who was tagged by shoemoney who was tagged by Andy who was tagged by Avinash...

According to the “blog tag rules”, I'm supposed to tell you five things about myself that most people don’t know and then tag 5 new people to be it. Unfortunately, I've been watching this game make the rounds for the past week or so, and now most of the people I know have already been "it".

Hmmm... what can I reveal about myself and still keep my job managing affiliates for Blair.com? Kim had some good ideas, so I'll stick with a few of hers!

1. I began my career at Blair Corp. sorting mail as a summer job, and also worked loading trucks during college semester breaks.

2. My first car was a 1983 Renault Alliance. Yep! That's the company who made the "Le Car". Are they even still in business? (Actually, before that I shared a 1978 Oldsmobile Omega with my brother that we got from my Grandfather when he passed away.)

3. I graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA with a major in English and dual minors in Economics and Religious Studies.

4. In my youth, several summers were spent at Pioneer Ranch Boys Camp in East Hickory, PA. One of my fellow campers was Phil Isaly, who's family had invented the Klondike Bar back in the early 1900's. Every summer Phil's dad would bring up a load of Klondike Bars for everyone at the camp.

5. If I make it to January, I'll have been employed by Blair Corporation for 18 years.

OK, Brad, Julia, Susan, Heather and Vinny... YOU'RE IT!

A reminder about shipping cut-offs for the holidays

Don't forget, folks! With only 11 days left until Christmas, and 2 weekends in-between, Blair.com is urging shoppers to use 2nd Day Air shipping to guarantee the arrival of the gift purchases before the big day. As I posted earlier, you can promote a free shipping upgrade at Blair.com to your site visitors. Shoppers must use 2nd Day Air shipping thru 3pm Eastern on 12/18 and Next Day Air shipping through 3pm Eastern on 12/19 for Christmas deliveries.

And one more thing! Blair.com Gift Cards make the perfect last-minute gift. Shoppers can select the e-gift card option and have their gift emailed to the recipient all the way through 12/22. E-gift cards are delivered within one business day!

Happy Holidays, and thanks for choosing to partner with Blair.com!

The Dust Has Cleared!

Thanks everyone! Last weekend was a HUGE success for the Blair.com Affiliate programs. I'll be releasing our newest promotion sometime tomorrow that will take us through to the holidays. In the meantime, I thought I'd share a picture of my son with all of you. This was the first year he was old enough to go hunting in Pennsylvania. Needless to say, the only deer he saw were in his dreams.

Black Friday Through Cyber Monday: 20% OFF Everything at Blair.com

It's that time of the year again. As online marketers, let's start the debate. Is Black Friday important to us, or does everyone hit the malls this weekend and start making their online purchases on Monday?

You know what? It does matter one darned bit to me. As long as the shoppers come to Blair.com at some point, I don't care whether it's a Friday, a Monday or the whole weekend long.

To make sure shoppers get a deal whenever they choose to shop, I'm going to run a 20% OFF Sale all weekend long! Yup! From Friday morning at 12:01am to Monday night, shoppers can save 20% OFF on all their purchases at Blair.com, including clearance items.

Once the smoke clears later next week, I'll stop back here and let you folks know whether Black Friday or Cyber Monday was bigger here at Blair.com. Or... maybe it will be Saturday or Sunday. If it is, I guess we'll need to think up a cool name for them, too!

Women's Festive Holiday Fleece Sweatshirts -- Only $9.99!

Shoppers don't need to wait until after the holidays to get these sweatshirts for 50% OFF! They're available right now at Blair.com for only $9.99.

They're made from cozy-soft cotton/polyester fleece with a ribbed neckline, cuffs and bottom. Plus, they're available in 5 colors/styles and 6 sizes. At this time, all colors and sizes are still available, but I'm betting some might disappear quickly as bargain shoppers snatch up this great deal.

Coffee, Harleys & Smack!

Since it's Friday, I figured I'd take a break from the Blair.com affiliate program and simply share with all of you. Did the title get your attention? Those are my 3 current addictions. Throughout the day, I usually have somewhere betwen 48 and 64 ounces of coffee. And... with the weather getting colder and the western Pennsylvania getting hit with it's 23rd day of rain out of the last 25, I'm REALLY jonesin' to get my motorcycle out of the garage. The third addiction requires a bit more detailed explanation.

I get my daily dose of Smack from Jellyfish.com. Every day at 1pm Eastern, Jellyfish.com posts a new Smack Shopping deal. Past "Smacks" have been Nintendo DS Lite, Bose SoundDock, MS Zune, and many more. The deal usually starts at the suggested retail price, and then, second by second, the price ticks down while the savings go up. At any time before the product sells out, you can click the "Buy" button and get the Smack at whatever the price was at the time. Here's the kicker, though. You don't know how many of each Smack Deal Jellyfish starts with, you don't know how many have been sold, and you don't know how many are left. If you buy early, you're harrassed for overspending. Wait too long and you miss out. Oh! That's another great thing about Smack I forgot to mention. There's a message board below where the deal ticks down for people to chat about the deal. Watching people discuss/argue is half the fun!

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, go to Smack Deals today a few minutes before 1pm Eastern. And don't say you weren't warned! THIS Smack is equally addicting!

As a Blair.com Affiliate, Are You Ready?

It's crunch time here at Blair.com. And I'm excited! At this time of the year, I find myself checking the numbers a few more times each day, and logging into CJ and Performics before I go to bed each night. And, as a Blair.com affiliate, you should be doing it, too.

Why? Because we're getting into the time of the year when Blair.com shoppers begin buying. I don't know whether they simply wait to start shopping for the holidays until around Thanksgiving, or if they get most of their other shopping done, and finish up with their Blair.com purchases. I really don't care, as long as they come!

Here are some stats that should get you as excited as I am! In 2005, 17 of the top 20 sales days for the Blair.com affiliate programs happened between November 26th and December 13th. Yep! You read that right. In that span of time, every single day except for one was in the top 20! For those of you who are wondering, the missing date came in at #21.

Oh! Don't forget! Black Friday and the following weekend are only 8 days away, so be on the lookout for emails from me in the very near future.

Wow! Hiya folks. Did you miss me? I'm sorry for the long time in between posts. I've been busy, but not THAT busy. No excuse for not posting for this long.

OK. Let's take a look. I see that "corduroy" and turtlenecks have made a big showing in the Top 20. That's to be expected this time of the year. But... just in case my kids are reading this, I want to drop a hint. I don't like corduroy, and I'm just not a turtleneck kind of guy. So stick to the basics. I can never have enough broadcloth dress shirts!

I found a great product to promote at Blair.com!

Once the temperature begins to dip just a bit here in the Northeast, we start to sell A LOT of these Nature Print Sweatshirts here at Blair.com. We've been selling them in different colors and designs for years! Why are they so popular? Well... they're comfortable, for starters. These beefy cotton/polyesters sweatshirts are soft and warm, and feature a roomy fit. They're a great pullover for layering, or on their own.

Available in 8 different color/style combinations, shoppers will easily find one to suit them, as well as others on their holiday shopping lists. Offered are: Wolf on forest, Bass on oxford, Stallions on black, Eagle on ash, Lab on wine, Whitetail Deer on khaki, Flying Eagle on navy and Mallard Duck on teal.

Now, here's the best part! These Nature Print Sweatshirts have been selling at Blair.com for $19.99 in the past. But right now, they're sale priced at only $9.99! And... at the time of this post, we have plenty in every size and color.

Don't wait to offer these Sweatshirts to visitors of your website. Add a link to these Nature Print Sweatshirts at Blair.com today!

On the Road Again...

I've been neglectful in posting, so I figured I'd cover two birds with one stone! This weekend, I'm heading west to CJU in beautiful Santa Barbara. As I posted earlier, this conference is usually a sell-out, and 2006 is no exception. There IS a waiting list, but at this late of a date, I'd be willing to bet that if you're not in, you're not going to be able to make the trip.

I'll be sure to post what happened, what I did, who I saw and what I learned once I return. Don't be expecting to hear from me early on Wednesday, 9/20, because I'm taking the red eye home Tuesday evening.

Now... let's reflect on another trip I made in August. On August 21 and 22, I attended the Performics Client Summit. This was my second one (I attended in 2005, too), and I was amazed at the difference! In 2005, I compared the Performics Client Summit and Commission Junction University this way -- the Performics Summit was like a stuffy country club affair, and CJU was like a college frat party. However, in 2006, the Performics Client Summit had REALLY changed! Stuart Frankel started things off with a great welcome that was sprinkled with just the right amount of humor. Yes. I used "Stuart Frankel" and "humor" in the same sentence! He really did a fantastic job! And... there was probably double the amount of attendees, including over 100 affiliates/publishers.

On came the speakers. Anne Holland from Marketing Sherpa led things off. Anne is always informative and entertaining, but I've seen her presentation before. All in all, I'd rate the presenter an "8", and the presentation a "7". Next came David Lewis of 77Blue and ThisNext. This was the first time I've sat in on one of David's presentations. I've seen him on panels before, but never solo. His presentation, "A Day in the Life of an Affiliate Publisher" was a hoot, and it was also informative. Presenter: 9, Presentation: 8. Finally, Lauren Freedman of the e-tailing group presented "Building a Publisher Site for Payout and Conversion." Wow! Lauren packed about 3 hours worth of information and charts into just over 45 minutes. I tried to take notes, but finally spent most of my time pouring over the charts on the large screens. Presenter: 6 (only because it was SO much info), Presentation: 9.

Oh... and did I mention we went and saw the Cubbies on a rooftop across from Wrigley Field on Monday evening?

Stay tuned, and I just might fill you in on the Day 2 Festivities.

45247 Tapestry Jacket & Embroidered Tee
19920 Original BendOver® Pants
37478 Stretch Denim-eze™ Jeans
44627 Tankini Separates
40990 Knit Pants
37490 Knit Twinset & Denim Skirt
19905 Stitched Crease Ponte Pants

41141 Poplin Pants
44551 Camp Shirt
47320 Mock Turtleneck
30232 Gentlemen’s Stretch Jeans
19902 Knit Tank

Wow! The majority of these products are new to the list, compared to the list I posted last month. It appears as though Blair.com shoppers are trading in their shorts and getting their wardrobes ready for cooler weather with new pants from our early fall collections. There is also a nice mix between men's and women's products. I would be surprised if the Mock Turtleneck that is currently #18 doesn't begin to move up the list next month.

Stumbling Through the Internets One Page at a Time

Jim Kukral, the Publisher at Revenews, recently posted an interesting entry that I thought you might enjoy. Jim writes:

It takes a lot to impress me online anymore. Having been clicking around at full speed since '96-ish, I have seen a lot of stuff. I have a bookmark file that is 7 years older than my own child, holding about 5k+ links to sites that probably don't even work anymore.

Let Your Fingers Do the Talking

OK. I'm not sure what that headline means, but it's the title of a blog entry by Jamie Birch at Revenews. Jamie is the Affiliate Relations Director at Converseon, and a friend of mine.

Jamie's post has to do with a discussion he recently had with an affiliate, and an interesting question the affiliate asked. Here's what Jamie had to say:

I had an interesting conversation with an affiliate over dinner at the affiliate summit. We discussed overall affiliate issues, crm issues for affiliates and basic industry hot buttons. One question he posed to me was: “Do affiliate managers want to receive calls, emails or any communication from affiliates?”

CJU Registrations are Now Open!

I made it to my first CJU last year, and I found it to be educational, great for networking, and a whole lot of fun. Registrations for Commission Junction's CJU '06 are now open, but who knows for how long?!? Last year, registrations closed after 2-3 days! That's because CJU is held in Santa Barbara, where Commission Junction has it's headquarters. CJU is held at the largest venue in Santa Barbara, the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. But... that still only allows for approximately 1/2 to 1/3 of the attendees who would eventually like to attend. Last year, I heard rumors of a HUGE waiting list.

In any case... I'm registered, and hope to meet a lot of Blair.com affiliates there!

A Summer Promo to Make EVERY Shopper Happy!

It's tough to know what types of apparel shoppers are out there during the warm, lazy summer months. Some folks are just looking to pick up an item or two, while others are completely replacing their warm-weather wardrobe.

That's why I decided to make the following promotion available to Blair.com affiliates. This promotion allows shoppers to decide how much they save, based on how much they spend.

Banners and text links are available at both Performics, CJ and ShareResults. Send your visitors to Blair.com via this promotion, and they'll be able to save $5 on a $50 order, $10 on a $75 order or $15 on a $100 order.

4-Day Memorial Day Sale -- 20% OFF Everything!

It's that time of the year again... time for the Blair.com 20% OFF sale. And this sale is good on ALL Blair.com products, including clearance items. The sale actually started at 12:01am last night, and runs through 11:59 pm on Monday night. (Times are eastern, since Blair Corp. is located in PA.)

You can find banners and text links for this promo at Performics, Commission Junction and Share Results.

Would you like to see some new banner sizes?

At times I've wondered whether the standard 468x60, 120x90 and 125x125 banners are just that -- still the standard. My skills of HTML coding and site design are closer to those of my 12 year old son's than to our designers here at Blair Corp. Well, a Blair.com affiliate asked for a few new sizes of banners, and I figured I'd post them here to see if others would be interested in a few new sizes, too.

I've heard that the 728x90 is the "new" 468x60. Is this true? Of course, I'm not going to get rid of all the 468x60's, but would be willing to add in a few 728x90's if Blair.com affiliates would be able to use them. The other banners sizes mentioned were a 160x600 skyscraper and 300x250 rectangle.

Let me know what you think. I'll take your input, and will add whatever Blair.com affiliates request to Performics, CJ and Share Results.
